Mosston* QuadBall
Dr. Muska Mosstons Final Gift To Physical Education
Observing a boy shooting hoops, Muska noticed the consistency where the ball hit the front of the goal rim. He walked over to the goal and pulled on it until it slanted down about 20. The boys next three shots went right through the goal. Muska realized that slanting the goal 20 significantly increased a shorter students chances of making the goal.
QuadBall is based on that Slanted Rim theory developed by the late Dr. Muska Mosston. Its designed to create an environment prone to inclusion, where every child has an opportunity for skill development through experimentation.
QuadBall also promotes simultaneous, interdisciplinary, kinesthetic learning by using the development of basketball shooting skills to reinforce both math and critical thinking skills.
A FOUR-BY-FOUR-BY-FOUR APPROACH TO LEARNING
Mosston QuadBall Is Driven By 4s:
- 4 colors
- 4 goal sizes
- 4 basketball sizes
- 4 shooting areas
- 4 point values
All elements are controlled by 4 colors, and there is one objective - shoot a round ball through a round goal. This places the opportunity for achieving success in the hands of the shooter.
To create a wide range of opportunities, the game is set up as follows: goals range in 2" increments from 18" to 24"; 4 basketballs range in size from mini to regulation; 4 shooting lines range in 5' increments, from 5' to 20'; and there are 4 point values from 1 to 4.
Everything is color coded (red, yellow, blue, green). Red represents the greatest challenge and maximum 4-pt. combinations (red-netted 18" goal, red regulation basketball, red 20' shooting line). Green represents the greatest opportunity for success with 1-pt. combinations (green-netted 24" goal, green mini basketball, green 5' shooting line).
Goal sizes, ball sizes and shooting distances provide endless variations of success-oriented possibilities.
*Named for the late Dr. Muska Mosston, author of Teaching Physical Education and creator of the Spectrum and Inclusion philosophies.
