SpaceStations Activity Guide

By Karen Mann

#1-88970

Introduction

SpaceStations have been developed to provide a durable, non-skid flat surface to facilitate a variety of physical activities without tripping or sliding. Instructions can be written on the SpaceStation's surface with a dry erase marker and wiped off clean with a wet cloth. SpaceStations are produced in 6 colors to keep your program organized!

SUGGESTED USE FOR SPACE STATIONS

Class Origination

  • A. Grouping/Squads - Assign children to a specific SpaceStations color. Each day they will go directly to their color Station.
  • B. Teams - Instant teams can be made by assigning SpaceStations colors.
  • C. Tumbling - Place one SpaceStations pad beside a mat to direct children to their mats. (This should be done after grouping in their SpaceStations color groups.) The most effective mat formation is the spoke formation.
  • D. Personal Space - Randomly place SpaceStations around play area. Students locate their color and stand on one SpaceStation. (SpaceStations can also be placed in straight lines or circles.)
  • E. Activity Stations - Write information needed to perform a skill directly on each SpaceStation. (Caution: ONLY use dry erase markers!)
